CRICKET.
M.C.C. V. NEW ZEALAND. FEB PBESB ASSOCIATION CiißisTciiuacu, March 23. The cricket match New Zealand t. Melbourne C.C. commenced at Lancaster Park to-day, when the weather was line though threatening. Late in the afternoon a steady drizzle set in, which put k stop to play nt 5 p.m. Tucker was elected captain of the N#w Zealand team and won the toss. He decided to but first, but the local men made a very poor'show, six wickets being down for 51 runs at lunch time. On continuing, the innings was quickly brought to a close for 77. Hickson being top scorer with 18, while BrookeSmith made 11, Tucker and Downes 10 each. McLcod secured six wickets for 39 runs and Armstrong 4 for 23. When the visitors went in they made a poor start, four being out for 32 runs, but Armstrong and McLeod then got together and carried the total to 140 before rain caused play to be suspended, Armstrong scored 72 (not out) and McLeod 40 (not out), both playing steady cricket, neither giving a chance. Vaughan scored 11 before Malonc broke through his defence, and the same trundlcr also got rid of Mailer and Wilkinson, while Downes bowled Eansford.
The threatening weather militated against the attendance, and the heavy rain which set in in tho evening, may causo a postponement to-morrow.
