WESTERN PARK EXTENSION.

An attempt is being made to enlarge the Western Park sports ground by securing certain School Commissioners' sections in exchange for certain sections on borough reserves. A month ago the School Commissioners decided to accept the exchange, if the Borough Council would pay Lhc Board L 320. At the School Commissioners' meeting on Friday, a letter was read from the New Plymouth Borough Council to tho effect that they could not pay the sum of L 320 by way of equality of exchange, but would be prepared to give Sections 332, 334 and 358 to 360, in exchange for Sections 491 to 495, now owned by the Commissioners, but subject to tho condition that Downe street be closed from Morloy street to Section 490, and then to Culficld road, a width of thirty feet. The Mayor and Town Clerk waited on the Commissioners and made representations iu support of the prop)sal. The Board decided, on the motion of Messrs Major and Faull, " That after hearing the deputation from the Borough Council, the Commissioners adhere to their former resolution.

The Commissioners' objection was; mainly, to the closing of the thirty Feet width of Cut-Acid street.
