THE MALOUF CASE.
FIRST INFORMATION DISMISSED. FARCICAL TESTS. Received i), 10.7 p.m. Sydney, March 9. Ike Magistrate dolivcred his reserved decision in tho Malouf case. He said Malouf's certificate of exemption should have been signed by a Minister of the Crown and the Collector of Customs, During the absence of the Collector, the certificate was signed by an acting' Collector, who had not been appointed to sigu certificates, therefore the certi. ficato was invalid. The case wan dismissed, MaloufE was then proceeded against on the second charge, of not having left the State at the expiry of the second exemption certificate, which lie obtained. Evidence fras given show- '"(? that Malouf passed the test in English, but was unablo to write out in French or Gorman, The defence claim that tests were mado such as to be farcical. There was no case to answer. Hearing was adjourned till Friday next.
