SENSATIONAL ARREST.
AHMED BUItGLAIt SUIiPItISED PIKES OX A CONSTABLE. FEB I'BESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, March 7. A sensational arrest of an alleged burglar occurred in the Newton district early this morning. Tho night watchiuau, seeing a man and woni'ui in a locked-up shop, called Constable Cappoll, The pair left the premises as the officer approached. 1 lie womau escaped, but the man was chased and eventually captured. \\ bile the ollieer was running, tbe man fchot at liiiu twice with a revolver, missing him. The fugitive, who gave the name of William Smith was caught, and a revolver loaded with ball cartridges was taken from him. A skeleton key was found near where he was captured. At the Police Court this morning Smith was charged with shooting at tho constable and breaking t and entering.
