WHANGAMOMONA schools.
Acting on the resolution of (he Education Board, after the receipt of a very strenuous letter from Messrs Brown and Izett, Mr Monkhouse visited Whangamomona during the past month, At the Board's meeting on Wednesday, Mr Monkhouse rcptried having visited Whangamomona, and could not recommend any alteration in the position of the school at present for the following reasons (1) That the kmporary school at the township is not strong, the attendance being only an average of 15; it is not showing signs of iucrease, and in case of its failure the present position of the school is most central; (2) That the Kohuratahi. hallis indifferently suited to the requirements of a school, and would require structurally strengthening before being fit for use; (3) That the abandonment of the present school building would mean its rapid deterioration; (4) That the shift to Kohuratahi would probably weaken the attendance; (5) That the Kohuratahi hall would be less couvcu-' ienlly situated for the majority of the settlers attending the school. Concluding a lengthy and detailed report, Mr Monkhouse said "while I have no hesitation in recommending that no alteration of the position of the school be made at present, I might add that the conditions arc changing so rapidly in the district that any rccomeudation made can only apply to present conditions, and might be greatly modified in the not distant future." The report was adopted, leaving the position unaltered,
