TARANAKI RIFLE ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL SHOOTING MEETING. The shooting meeting was opened on the local range on Wednesday. Colonel Messenger (in absence of His Worship the Mayor) firing tho first shot, Fine weather prevailed with a stiff side wind blowing throughout tho day. Tho total entries are not quite up to expectation, but there are sufficient to make a good meeting, many of the competitors having come down from Auckland, so that the capabilities of (he local men arc fairly well taxed to keep within the prize list. To-day is the principal day, when finals and the Government District Match will be fired, and the committee extend an invitation to tbe public lo visit the range. The Garrison Band will play some selections; afternoon tea and fruit can be had on the ground. Two matches and two ranges of the third match were completed yesterday.
