METHODIST CONFERENCE.
I'KB I>BEBS ASSOCIATION. Ddnkdin, February 27. At the Methodist Conference it wan decided to relieve Hawera circuit from taking a second married Minister for another year. Priuee Albort College waiters were dealt with, so also were those connected with the supernumerary fund. In the latter fund several ministers wore reported to bo in arrears in payments, and it was decided in future that all such cases be dealt with. The contingent fund reported an income of £llßl, and a balance left for future contingencies of £252. Several compassionate allowances to retiring ministers were voted. There was considerable discussion over mis. sion work in Fiji, and .;i resolution passed recommending the New South Wales Conference to suspend the legislation of last general conference with regard to Fiji, until the general conference. The report of C'onnexional Sunday Schools was considered, and the ltev. F. X. Cfrillin was appointed general secretary for the coming year. The report on tho " Outlook" was adopted, and hearty thanks given to the retiring editor, President Bruce. A considerable portion of the afternuon was taken up with a consideration of the \oung Men's forward movement. Gratification was expressed at tho work done by the organising secretary, and it was unanimously resolved to continue the office. The appointment of secretary for the coming year was deferred, On naval and military matters it was decided that the Minister of Defence be waited upon re chaplain's appointments to the volunteers, and urged that in each battalion staff there bo two chaplains, and that thoy shall not both be of tho same denominatioa. A committee was set up to watch and foster the appointment of deaconesses throughout tho Church in New Zealand. In future there is to be a term of two year's training before any sister is to be employed. At present there are eight deaconesses working for the Church in the colony. Provision was mado to enable tho lay members of the stationing committee to sit on that committee in future during all its sessions. A report on Bible-in-sehools was roceived, and a control committee appointed. In the evening a missionary demonstration was held.
