In replying, Sir Joseph saidj he was sorry the treaty for reciprocity, signed by Mr Kingston and himself in 1895, had not been agreed to by South Australia. New Zealand was willing to renew negotiations with lite Commonwealth, as the development of trade with the Colonies was all-important. Regarding New Zealand's atittude towards the British navy, he declared he was not favorable to a separate navy, New Zealand has the kindest feeling towards Australia and the meetings of public men of the I wo countries was of immense importance.
