TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

FIRST DAY RESULTS. The Taraunki Association's Open Championship meeting commenced at New Plymouth ou Thursday morning under favorable circumstances. The weather, which during the night had been anything but promising, cleared up beautifully, and was ideal for play. The courts were in very good order. A good deal of interest was evinced in the tournament by the pirtilic, the courts being liberally patronised, especially during the afternoon. Close on fifty games were played, some of them being extremely interesting. Probably the best bout of (he tournament was that between Fisher and Dickie in the third round of the Championship Singles, Fisher securing revenge for his Wellington defeat by 11-!), 6-0. On his form yesterday, Fisher appears to have n very good chance of winning this event.' Miss Powdrell has started off in characteristic, stylo after the Championship Singles, beating Mrs Corrigan 6-0,6-I.' A good number of handicap events wore go off, and provided some really good play.
