GENERAL NEWS.

Bewlcy and Griffiths hold a big fruit sale this afternoon. Housewives and others wanting fruit should not miss to-day's opportunity. Winton is discussing the udvisabi"ty of establishing a municipal electric lighting plant. Another large consignment of seasonable fruits will be auctioned by Mr Newton King at his mart this afternoon. A funeral, a wedding that was to be, and a broken engagement arc the principal feali cs of an extraordinary lawsuit which will shortly be tried in the Paris courts. In the will of Mmc. Marris, an eccentric old lady who died not long ago. was a proviso to the effect that i'2SiH> should be spent on her funeral The heirs spent all Ihev could, but found when they had concluded the arrangements that they had a few pounds still in hand. To get rid of this they gave orders that the black and silver draperies put up oyc> the door of the louse on the occasion of the funeral should be left for five days. Another resident in the house, whose daughter's nuptials 'were to be celebrated recently, objected to the trappings of woe and asked the concierge to remove them. The concierge did not remove them, and when the prospective bridegroom saw the funeral signs he saw too, he said, an omen of ill-luck, and broke off the engagement. The father of the disappointed bride has now begun an anion against the landlord, holding him liable for the concierge's action in not removing the draperies.
