Walter Taverner, charged with assault with intent to cause bodily harm, was found gaily of common assault, and lined Is. Judge Dcnuiston strongly condemned the bringing of such a trivial ease before the Supreme Court.
Thomas Patterson charged with perjury at Ashburton, in giving evidence for tlicidefence in a sly grog case was acquitted. The defence was mainly that he was too muddled with drink at the time to remember some weeks later what he had doue at a particular time and place.
There is only one -asc remaining to be dealt with—a cliargc of iufanticide at Makikihi. W ellinutun, February (I. At the Supreme Court, Albert Talbut, convicted of indecent assult, was remanded for sentence. In the case of Charles Philp, clnr:;ed with carnally knowing, the jury failed to agree.
