BAND CONTEST. I'KK l'llt'SS ASSOCIATION. Nklson, January 31. The Carnival proceedings to-day in. eluded trotting races, cricket with fire brigades' representatives, and shows. To-night the lire brigades illuminated the Trades procession at the Band Contest. At the Contest, the quartette resulted : West-port (SO), 1; Granity (71)), 2; Hokitika (78), 3. Other compelitors were: Grcymouth 77, Masterton 701, Nelson Garrison 7ti, Temukii 70, Hokitika Catholic 75, Feilding 71, Grey Catholic 73, Denniston 72. Soprano cornets: McMasler (Westport), 47, 1; Neighbor (Grauity), 40, 2; Simpson (Masterton), 41, 3; Haybittle (Feilding), 42.
