supposed The " Morning Post" states that upwards of a hundred tariff reformer have been elected. The real issue, the - journal says, is whether there should be four parties or five in the House of Commons. " Will Mr Balfour lead a number of his supporters across the bridge and as a leader of a united party take the place of Mr Chamber lains sideP" tho "Post" asks Tariff reformers, it states, want a direct answer to the question. LABOUR ASPIRATIONS. Lonuox, January 29. Tho Right Hon. li. B. Haldanc, Secretary of State for War, speaking at Edinburgh, and dwelling upon the potent influonco of the University, suggested that the rise of the Labor Party was due to a suspicion that the Liberal Party was lacking in ideas. Any attempt to tyraunously exercise the State's power would result iu reaction, but the Liberals, by a wise excrciso of power, combined with scientific knowledge, hoped to render superfluous the , aspirations of a separate, independent Labor Party. Mr llaldaue implied that the State might take action precluding a motion that labor commodity should be bought in the cheapest and sold iu the dearest mnriict.
