THE RECREATION GROUND IMPROVEMENTS.

MUMEY-U.VIS.ING SCHEMES. A well-attended meeting of ladies in connection with the New Plymouth Recreation Sports Ground Committee was held in the Mayor's room in the Town Hall on Monday night. Arrangements for the euchre party, to be held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday, were completed, including the provisson of an excellent supper. A provisional programme for the Garden Parly, to be held in the Recreation Grounds on 22nd inst., was drawn up and adopted. One of the most interesting items will be a Juvenile Poster and Fancy Dress Grand March, in which the children attending the public schools arc to be invited to take part. Prizes will be given for original costumes. Swimming sports, including fancy swimming and diving will be held in the lake, and the Taranaki Rilles' champion teams arc to give exhibitions Additional interest will be added to the event should His Excellency the Governor accept the invitation !o be present. The ladies' and the several committees arc entering upon Iheir enterpriiu with enthusiasm, and with the public response that is anticipated, a very considerable sum should In netted towards the fund he the improvement of the sports ground.
