SWITCHING-ON CEREMONY.

By eight o'clock oil Friday evening there was quite an imposing gathering of townspeople outside the distributing Station i'l Liardet street, the building itself lining comfortably tilled with ollicials, Councillors, and lady friends. Mr ILues, manager of the Brush Co., referring to the events of the afternoon, slated that the turbines which had been puL into operation by the Mayor and Cr. Brooking had no doubt generated enough electric tluid to illuminate the town, and lie had much pleasure in asking the Mayoress (Mrs Cock) to switch the light on. The Mayoress then turned the switch illuminating the station, after which the various circuits, transmitting the light throughout the town, were likewise switched oil, amidst applause from the onlookers, Mr Hues then, on behalf of the Brush Co., asked the Mayoress to accept a gold-iiiouutcd switch in honor of the occasion, the Mayor responding. The switch bears the inscription : "Presented to the Mayoress of Plymouth on the occasion of the inauguration of (he electric lighting of the town, January, 10011, by the Brudi Elect no Engineering Company," The Company was then driven round the town to view the lighting, prior to the social Junction in the Town Jlall.
