TARANAKI TRADESMEN'S CONFERENCE.

A conference of delegates from the v various Provincial Tradesmen's Asso- '- nations was held ilt the Borough ■'• Chambers, Eltliam, on Thursday. 11 There were present : Messrs C. A.' 1 Wilkinson, Carman and Hill (Eltham) • I Wriglcy (Hawera); McDonald (Ingle- » wood); Gapper, Adlam and Larrott J (Kaponga); Baker (New Plymouth); ' Kobmsou and Ward (Stratford). Mr Wilkinson, president of the r Eltham Association, in the unavoidable -' absence of the Mayor, welcomed the 1 delegates and stated the meeting was called with (he object of forming a • lrovincial Association, so that con- . eerted action might be taken in con- , uectmn with all legislation affecting . the interests of tradesmen. The . exchange of lists of' bad marks ' for , mutual protection was also a subject . that might he discussed and brought ■ into operation. A number of mailers of general interest to tradespeople were also outlined for the consideration "I the conference.
On the motion of Mr Gapper seconded by Mr Wriglcv, Mr Wilkinson was voted to the chair. The delegates then proceeded to debate the main object of (lie gathering, as the outcome of which the following resolution, on the motion of Messrs Ward ami Carman, was carried unanimously: I hat the Associations represented at this meeting form themselves int., a Laramiki Provincial Tradesmen's Association. The head ollice for the first twelve mouths was lived at Eltham, on the motion of Mr Ward seconded bv Mr " rigley. A committee consisting of Messrs Wilkinson, Carman and Cuiubcrworth (Secretary of the Klthain Association "■as set up to draft rules for .«übmission | to the various allied Associations. Mr Cumbcnvoi'th was elected secretary for the first year, on the motion of ! Mr dapper seconded by McDonald. ' It was decided to bold meetings of ' the Executive quarterly at the different ! centres, A quantity of general business was '. transacted and a number of useful sug- ' gesfions for the Hales Committee were " made, the Conference adjourning in v time to allow delegates to catch the evening trains.
