SOUTH AFRICA.

LECTUEE BY REV. FLYNNANDERSON. was a fair audieuco in St. Mary's Schoolroom, New Plymouth, on Tuesday night, at the lecture on South Africa, given by the Eer. J. E. FlynnAuderson, late chaplain with the British troops in the Boer war. The lecturer handled his subject in a masterly manner, treating broadly on the principal events of in'crest in an able and eloquent style that made the lecture at once interesting and instructive. The rev. gentleman possesses a keen sense of humour, and his witticisms and anecdotes kept the audience amused as well as interested during the whole of the evening. The audience were taken by means of splendid limelight views from Capetown through the Cape, Transvaal and the Orange States, the points of interest being explained in a chatty conversational manner. The late war, the diamond industry, the political and commercial outlook, the Chinese labour question, in fact all that a man who kuows the country and believes in its future can find to talk about and interest his hearers were touched upon in the lecturer's own inimitable style. Genuinely the entertainment is one that would occupy and interest the attention of any audience, no matter how large. At the conclusion, the Mayor (Mr E. Cock) proposed a hearty [vote of thanks to Mr Flynn-Anderson t for hi* in teres ling lecture, and m doing so regretted that the hail was not packed as it would have been could those who hud absented themselves been aware of what they were missing. The vote was accorded with acclamation.
