' MONTHLY*^MEETING. The Taranaki Crown Land Board met on Tuesday. Present: The Commissioner (Mr F. Simpson) in the chair, and Messrs Heslop, Connett, Rattenbury and McCluggage. APPLICATION'S APrBOVED, The following land applications received since last meeting were approved : —Lease in perpetuity -L. Sutton, Section 8, Block 9, Pouatu, 78(3 icres; F. Neilson, Section 8, Block 12, Upper Waitara, 585 acres. Optional Hght of purchase: G. F. Turner, Sccfions 7, 8 and 9, Block 9, Kapara, 994 teres.
TRANSFERS f,RANTED. J. W. and W. C. Green to J. W. >reen, Section 7, Block 10, Ngatinaru; V. Bea to L. F. B. Smith, Section 9, Block 14, Waro j W. McKenzie to W. McKean, Section 6, Block 6, l T pper Waitara; A. McCluggage to J. and H. Pittams, Section 2, Block 7, Pouatu; W. Reid to F. A. Cut Geld, Section 3, Block 9, Upper Waitara. In tlie cases of V. Bea and W. Heid approval was subject to the improvements being verified by the ranger. E. C. S. Jones notified that he would complete the transfer of Section 30, Block 11, Opunake, to Bobb and Davidson upon payment bj them of rent he has paid.—Deferred to next meeting in order that the parties may arrange the matter between themselves.
BOADING MATTEBS, P. A. Martin and W. S. Currie were granted a temporary lease of portions of the reserve between the road and their holdings, Sections 12 and 13, Pouatu, at a rental of 5s per annum, pending the survey of the road deviation, the present line depriving them of their road frontage. W. L. Fitzherbert's application to purchase portion of Noble's line, a closed road adjoining Scftion 22 was granted, subject to the consent of the local body. ACCBUED THIBPS. The proposal of the Stratford County Council for the expenditure of £331 17s lOd, and the Hawera County Council for £793 os 2d, accrued thirds, were a-, reed to, the latter being subject to approval on one item.
CLOSE SETTLEMENT AND GBAZING. [ The Lands Department forwarded an instruction of Cabinet that in reoffering small grazing and pastoral run lands, it must be ascertained whether such lands are fit for close set tlement. —Acknowledged. BENTAL MATTBBS. D. Craig, Sections 4 and 5, Block 12, Mnnaia township, and M. J. Mcßeynolds, Sub-Section 1, Eltharn* Opunake Railway reserve, were reported to be arrears, with rent on yearly tenancies. Referred to the Crown Solicitor.
| The matter of building on Section 98, Block 8, Waimate, occupied by P. Higginson. was further discussed. The question was deferred to enable the holder to make an effort to considerably reduce the arrears of rent. The Board will accept at the present time a cash payment of £6OO for the buildings now on the Lnd.
J. F. Symons notified that he was trying to sell Sections 61 and 165, Block 1, Mahoe, and that he was unable to pay his rent at present.—lt was decided to notify the mortgagee of the rent owing.
NON-COMPLIANCE. The following were reported to have failed to show cause for non-compliance with the conditions: —Jas. Burns, Section 4, Block fi, Aria, non-improvement; S. E. Meredith, Sections 1, 2 and 5, Block 2, Obura, non-improvement; A. E. R. Collins, Section 2, Block 1, Egmont, non-residence.
Mr Meredith waited on the Board and explained the reasons for noniniprovement, stating that he had now let a contract for 100 acres of bushfelling. Six months extension of time was allowed in his case.
Patrick Irwin was reported by the Hanger for the non-improvement of Section 27, Block 14, Oliura, and for failure to reside.—The section is declared forfeited. Hannah McLeod, Section 5, Block 5, Aria, notified that she intended to build iu May next—six months extension granted. A similar period was allowed J. G. McKcnzie, Section 13, Block 1, •Aria.
Steuart & Chase, Section 1, Block 11, Aria, were granted three months extension, as was Jas. McGrath Sections 1 and 2, Block 8, Aria.
C. Billing's explanation regarding residence on Section 7, Block 5, Egmout, was accepted as satisfactory, E. .1. Riddle was given six month's extension of time to effect necessary improvements on Sections 13 and 11, Block 2, and Section 1, Block 3, Aria. Kosina C. Lee wrote that she would carry out necessary improvements on Section 14, Block 11, Ohura, this season, and stating also that she desired to transfer the .section to her son.— Granted six months extension of time, the qu v!iou of transfer to be consid.'ivd at next meeting. Six months extension was granted to W. Heath, Section 5, Block 15, Ohura, on his application, owing to the fact that ho could not cart timber to his Section until a bridge had been erected over the Ohura.
E. Julian, holder of Section 37, Block 11, and Sections 1 and 9, Block 12, Wailara, whose term of leave of absence expires on January 17th, is to be notified to reside on his land. Consideration of a number of other cases was deferred till next Board meeting.
OPEX FOB SELECTION. The scheme of sub-division and prices submitted for 20 sections in Blocks 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, Ohura, and Block 3, Hcno, surveyed by the district surveyor, Mr H. N. Skeet, were approved, and the lands will be offered for sale or selection under the Bush and Swamp Laud Settlement Act. The Ranger reported having resumed possession -of Section 6, Block 11, Cape district. The section will be rc-offercd, weighted with the value of improvements. FORFEITURES AND SUBHEADERS. John Andrews applied for permission to surrender Sections 41 to 4t>, (S3 to 66, 68 and CD Huirangi township, with a view to them being offered for sale for cash, and that a fresh lease of Sectious 1 to 3, 24 to 27, 31, 47 to 50, 144 to 145 at present held by him be granted.—Referred to Ranger for report.
Mr B. D. Welsh applied on behalf of W. D. Hastie to be allowed to forfeit Section 3, Block 1, Taurakawa.— Granted, conditionally on the arrears in rent being paid. FREEHOLD GRANTED. M. Redican applied for the freehold of Section 1, Block 13, Opunake.— Title to be granted upon payment of amount due. MISCKLT.AXEOrS. S.D., J., and H. Coleman applied for temporary tenancy of Sections 10, 27 and 28, Block 12, Omona. —Granted a yearly tenancy, subject to termination on three months notice in the event of the land being required for public purposes, rental to be fixed by the Commissioner. The Banger reported on Section Hi, Block 1, Oco, the lease of which expired on 31 December. —ft was agreed to issue a new lease in terms of the report. The Commissioner reported that tlir.rc had been no attendance of the public at the sale of Whangamomona township lots at Stratford on December 22nd. Mr MeCluggage explained that it was owing to an oversight on the part of the agent. Several applications in regard to mortgages were approved, and the action of the Chairman between meetings confirmed, subject to the bank's reply in one case being satisfactory. The price to be put on Section 1, Block (i. Oimra. applied for by B. G. Carrie was fixed at 20s per acre. Renewal of tenancy was granted to,

It was decided to reduce the rent, and amend titles on sections held on lease and license. in Block 16, Egrnont Survey District, on account of land taken for Mount Egmont branch railway.
