THE CHESTER MATCH. THE "DAILY MAIL'S" ACCOUNT. THE BEFEBEE IN THE WELSH MATCH. Received 16, 6.55 p.m. Sydney, January lfi. The " Daily Mail" says" Lancashire Rugbyites, through their own lack of enterprise, left out the New Zealand tour. It was not, therefore, to be wondered that they steamed across the Mersey to see the colonials play, Chester. " Both in the scrum and out of it the 'All Black' piccos fitted together in all their varying combinations, with harmonious precision of their kaleidoscope game. They hod not been going long before, at the end of a forward rush over the line, Nicholson and O'Sullivan threw themselves on the ball so closely together that no one, not even themselves, could possibly tell which got the try. "When the New Zealand backs got to work in their own sweet, inimitable way, Roberts, on the base of the scram, always started movement with his lightning pick-up; tries cameqnickly. With the exception of a goal, which Tyler kicked from just under the po its. the other places were at acute angles. Gillet essayed three kicks at goal, and Thompson tried the other. They were perhaps scarcely to blame for missing, as the ball was wet. There hai lately been a falling off in the visitors' place-kicking; " Play in the second half was not so & tractive from the spectators' point of view. The New Zea landers, apparently sutfeited with success, seemed to grow careless. Their passing was not nearly so neat and clean, while at times there was some bad fumbliug at critical moments which spoilt the openings, bpt the score, all the same, kept mounting up. Deans was at bis best. While going at full-tilt, he picked up and forged through half a dozen of his opponents and scored, while Roberts wound up the spell with one of the most magnificient tries that could possibly be imagined. He cut in, like a streak of greased lightning, round the side of the scrum, and past the Che- ( shire halves, whom his feint had taken ] off guard. He was inside the three- i quarter line in a flash. With the hurrying full-back between him and the line, he swerved past the last obstacle as though it were stationary, I and ran right round behind the posts - and scored." j A paragraph- in the " Daily Mail" t states that the New Zcalandcrs repudiate the suggestion that there is any difficulty as far as they ari concerned j about the referee for the Welsh match. \ They submitted four names to the 1 Welsh Union—Mr Coles, Secretary of the English Union; Mr Nicholls, of j Leicester, and Mr Findlay, of Cam- ] bridge University. The Welsh suggested a referee from Scotland, and it a is understood that the Welsh suggestion j has now been agreed upon by both f parties. a
