A slight drizzling rain from the South set in about nine o'idock this morning, but cleared off before the game resumed, and the weather promises to be fine for the rest of the day. Hickson and Redgrave, the not outs of Saturday, began scoring rapidly. At noon the batsmen were still together, with the score i wickets o>r 2S"! -Hickson 128, lledgrave 70. At 299 Redgrave skied Olliffi to cover, and was caught, after playing a vigorous innings for 77. Fourteen runs later Olliff got a shooter past Hickson, and his long inuings came to an end, 313—8—135. 1 Laws and Bricewcre then associated,

and the latter at once began aggressive, sending a ball to the boundary or over the fence.

Olhff changed ends, and off his first Brice was caught by Lusk at cover, only to find that " no ball " had been called. Brice heralded his escape by bringing his total up to 50 when he fell a victim to a fine running catch by Brooke-Smith. Just at this time Wellington's score was 3SO for 7 wickets, and it was declared closed, leaving Auckland 302 to win. Auckland began their second in. nings with Hemus and Hussey opposed to the bowling of Upham and Monarghau. Each batsman gave a chance at short leg which was not accepted, and the score rose slowly to 20, when Hemus was badly missed by Brice in the slips. A few runs later Hussey got leg before to Mouarghan for 46, Hemus not out 13—one wicket for 29. At 3.30 p.m. Auckland had lost 3 for 77, Hemus not out la.

WELLINGTON VICTOHIOUS. Later. The match between Auckland and Wellington finished at 5.30 in favour of the latt.T by 211 runs and 8 wickets. Hiekso.i and Uedgriive (not out) carried the score to 20!) before they were septrated the latter batting merrily for 77, including eight fours. Fourteen runs later, Hickson was bowled by Shorter for a line innings of 135, which took hint three hours and ten minutes, and contained cricket of high order. After him, Bricc, a brilliant young cricketer, hit harder still and rattled up 50, including two livers, in three-quarters of an hour. At lunch time the innings closed at 3SO for seven wickets—Laws (not out), 21. Dt'iz/ding rain in the morning made the ball greasy and haudicapped the bowlers. Cliff took 3 for 07, but none of the others could do anything. Auckland had four hours left to win or draw, but were all out by 5.30 for 177—Henms 58, Brookc-Smith 37_ Lusk IS, Hussey 1(1, Oliff 13, McNeill 11. Mouaghau took four for 52. The visitors speak very highly of his bowling. Upham clean bowled the last three men, and secured four in all for 55. The fielding on both sides to-day was weak, and a number of chances were missed.
