EXPORTS FROM NEW PLYMOUTH. LOW TEMPERATURE OF SHIPMENTS. The export of butter and cheese from the Moturoa Freezing Works at New Plymouth may now be said to have reached high-water mark, the shipment which the Corinna will take away on Monday constituting a record for a fortnight's accumulation at the Works. To-dalc, New Plymouth has exported, for transhipment to the undermentioned vessels at Wellington : 1!) 0 5 Boxes Sept. 28 Turakina 1,597 Cc'. 9 Corinthic 3.949 Oct. 26 Paparoa 0,213 Nov. 6 Kmuara 8,088 Nov. 23 Ruapehu 11,222 Dec. 7 Gothic 12,957 Dec. 21 Rimutaka 11,667 Dec. 21 Devon 2,53) 1906. Jan. 4 lonic 11,393 TO SAIL— Jan. 15 Tongariro 12,529 Jan. 15 Morayshire- 3,171 Total 88,316 At a reasonable estimate of £2 10s per 561b box, the total shipments represent a value of not less than j £220,790 for butter. I For the same period 4,729 cases of chccßc (all except 11 cases, first grade) were exported. At 69s per cwt. the total value of the cheese cxportations was £18,360, or a grand total of £239,150. Should the present high market be maintained and the yield expectations be realised, the half-million sterling mark is not without the bounds of possibility. It is very satisfactory to note that i the Motoma Works, thanks to their ■ up-to-date equipment and accommodation, continue to lead in the all-im. i portant matter of transhipping at low i temperature. As has been inferred, despite that the transhipment here from works to hold takes from six : to eight hours, the temperaturo at i which the butter is shipped is lower ! than that of any grading worts in the ] Colony. Taking four shipments for example, the Kumara's transhipment was loaded at New Plymouth at an average temperature of 11 degrees above zero, transhipped at Wellington at 19 degrees; Ruapehu 10 and 16; Rimutaka 9 and 19; and Gothic 9 and 19 respectively. The figures speak for themselves, but their real valuo may only be correctly gauged by ' making the comparison with shipment temperatures at other ports, an invidious comparison which we do not feel called upon to make at present.
