FIRES.
PER MESS ASSOCIATION. °> Wellington, January 11. 8 A large wooden building on -Lambn ton Q.uay, occupied bv Taylor and Co., i- dyers, Miss Williams, confectioner, and Oakley, tailor, was damaged by b fire to-day. The outbreak was caused by an explosion of benzine. In attempting to extinguish the flames Taylor was severely burnt about the head and*, arms, and a boy named Freeman was seriously hurt. Doth were removed lo the hospital fdr trcatment. The si ek and appliances of those occupying the building were damaged by fire and water. Oakley is insured for £ LSO in the North Queensland, and Miss Williams for £75 iu the j same ofiice. Taylor and Oo.'s insurances are unknown. The building is , insured for £(550.
