NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present-. The Mayor (Mr R. Cock), Crs Browne, Hiitchen, Collis, Brooking, Wilson, Ewing and Monteath. Messrs P. aaul D. Duncan, Christchurch, wrote offering to furnish quotations for construction of an up-to-date water waggon. The Mayor said that the Council hid had several applications of a similar nature. As the provision of a water-cart would have to be faced very shortly, it would be as well to obtain all the information bearing on the question in the meantime. The Engineer reported further on the application of the Mangorei Dairy Company for a water connection. Two three-quarter inch pipes could be laid down without difficulty. The Council dealing with the application tvs a special case granted the application, the Company to pay the cost, and an annual rental of £5. The report of the Works Committee, the principal items of which were published on Frida}', was adopted. The financial statement showed ordinary account on credit at close of meeting £132, and loan account on credit £6965.
Mr W. E. Pardy wrote stating that nothing had been done to repair damage to bis section abutting on Powdcr-ham-street gully, although the matter was to have been attended to six months ago—Referred to Borough Engineer. The reports of the Borough Engineer, General Inspector, and Abattoir Ranger, were read and received. It was resolved that Smart Bros, be paid 75 per cent, progress payment for work done on Town Hall electric wiring contract. In reply to a communication, it was decided to inform Mr George thai the question of making sewer connection to the Primitive Methodist Church is in 'the hands ot the Engineer. The Council resolved to tender its thanks (o Mr J. C. George, who has resigned, for his services in connection with the Western Park Board It was resolved to make a water connection to Western Park, the prisoners to do the work.
Applications arc to be invited for the position of Do-,' Tax collector, aud the present collector receives one month's notiec.of the termination of his engagement.
Permission was granted the New Zealand Express Co. to erect a small shed in wood and iron at rear of brick premises.
The report of the Eld-trie Light Committee, as follows, was adopted:— "That the previous resolution of the Council he adhered to, and the electric light contract and all correspondence in connection therewith, be placed before Mr Samuel for his opinion."
The Abattoir Committee's report, containing the following, was adopted: —"That Messrs. Sole Bros, he informed that, provided they obtain the consent of the other butchers to their application for permission to erect a boiling-down establishment at the abattoir, the Council will take the application into favourable consideration."
