Tlio difficulty between the Borough Council and tlio Health Department concerning a house which the Departmenl had culled on the Council to order to he demolished as insanitary, was adjusted by an interview with Dr. Valentine, acting Chief Oliicer, ■who said the Department would be satisfied if specified renovations and drainage wore carried out. Councillors disclaimed any desire to run counter to the Department, and au understanding was come to that the owner of the building be notified to carry out the work ; failing his doing so, the Couucil to order distruction of the house, which is ail old hotel, latterly used as a cheap lodging house. The Couucil had declined to order it to be pulled down on the grounds that it was capable of repair.
