TEE PBESS ASSOCIATION. Chmstchdbch, January 2. I A very heavy thunder storm broke over Christchurch shortly after 2 o'clock this afternoon. Vivid flashes of lightning were followed by heavy peals of thunder. A severe shower of hail fell, the stones being larger than peas iu size. Timakc, January 2. There was a terrific hailstorm h«ro about 2 p.m, to-day, hail stones up to an inch long falling, and doing groat damage to tho glass vorandahs and conservatories in the town, A terrific storm swept over the Waimate Plains yesterday (Tuesday) morning. Houses, milking sheds and outbuildings were overturned and carried some distanco, trees were uprooted, chimneys lowered and windows smashed. The storm, happily, was only local and of short duration, .
