FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' PICNIC.

Splendid weather was responsible for a record crowd at the Friendly Societies' Picnic at Sentry Hill 011 New Year's Day. It is estimated that fifteen hundred people travelled from >'ew Plymouth by rail, and about three hundred arrived by trains from south. Besides this, there were large numbers who drove or cycled.
