A BUSINESS RETROSPECT.
MR EDWIN CHATTERTON. Mr Edwin Ciiatturton is retiring from the firm of Messrs Yeale and Chatterton. grocers and provision merchants, New Plymouth. Mr Chatterton is urged by family reasons to withdraw from business, he having had considerably more than his due share of trouble in the past couple of years. The retiring partner lias had quite a long experience in business circles of this town. He landed here as a lad about twenty-one years ago, and short- , ly afterwards entered the service of the 1 Co-operative Stores of that time, the ■ forerunners of the recently-liquidated Co-operative Stores Company. The 1 old firm, it will be iY'membcre.d by : thqse who were in New Plymouth in • those days, had premises where Mes- ■ srs Collett and Co.'s rooms are now. • Mr Chatterton's next employment was • with Messrs Yealc and Carter in pre- > miscs now occupied by Mr Bartlett, : photographer, in Devon Street, and , when ilic lirm dissolved he left to join Messrs Carter aud White as shopman, and was for some years aftcr- - wards with Mr A. J. Whitaker. His f last venture was to • acquire a partuerc ship in the firm of Veale and Son, in '> which lie had formerly acted as mes. seugcr. Such aca ccr, from the lowest > rung to the top of ihe ladder in the 5' same town, is sure proof of ability and '• integrity, and we reg ct that Mr Chatterton has been compelled to lake a '> rest. The business ln.» grown rwnarko ably in recent years, and the new lirm o " Allan Veale " has a fine coincction "i with which to enter the Nov Yeaf, 1906. We wish them all jrosperity in the business, which has Bad such 0 a longstanding in the town.
