Pukio Handicap.—Declination, Lctbeline, Elfrida, Silken fiein, 71b. Reynolds' Welter.—Tikarawa, Dulcinea, Aberration, 71b. On Monday next there will be no less than a dozen registered Eaein Clubs holding meetings in different parts of the colony, the principal gatherings are:—Auckland H.C., HawVs Bay J.C., Rangitikei R.C., AVairarapa 8.C., and Opunake R.C.
OPUNAKE ANTICIPATIONS. The Opunake R.C. meeting has drawn good entries and acceptances. Most of the horses were seen out at the local meeting, ro followers of form will have something substantial to guide them in picking the dividend payers. The Hurdles should provide a close go between Geologist and Mawhiti. The former has incurred a lOlbs penalty. Mawhiti will meet the bay gelding on 81bs better terms, I shall not be surprised to see Mawhiti win. He showed great gameness, and will no doubt be the better for the racing he had this week. I like Mawhiti 1
Geolooist 2 i Little Tcbk 3 In the Flying Handicap, Tambourina has been penalised 51bs. My selections are Jean ... , 1 Lualla 2 Clbskstiks 3 The Maiden Plate should be a good thing for Nero. The place getters may be Nbbo 1 Spouting Qcekn ... 2 Fivisg Clocd 3 In the Opunake Handicap the following penalties have been incurred :—Glenullin 91bs, Cyrano, Claremont, Southern Cross, and Star Rose lOlbs each. I will place
Glbntllis 1 Star Rosb 2 Makikihi 3 The Electric Stakes, a four fvlong flutter, may be won by Silveb Lead or Clbhbntixe In the Welter Handicap field most of the horses hare engagements in previous races, it is, therefore, somewhat difficult to make a selection at present. I like
Flttso Cloud 1 Jeas 2 Compass 3 The New Year Stakes will be better summed up on previous running. Southern Cross and Claremont will carry a slb penalty, and Cyrano and Star Rose lOlbs each. I fancy Makihhi or Stab Rose. ' In the Final Stakes the same remark applies as in the previous race. Jeas and Silveb Lead should be hard to beat.

not half a dozen nor a dozen totalisators would have been able to handle the business. Although up to half past two over £1250 passed through the machines, almost as much more money must have been shut out. The club had six 10s machines outside, and five £1 and one £5 totea in the saddling paddock. The receipts showed an increase of £13415 10s compared with last year. Tupara is now located in Australia, and is racing under the name of Tanakoe.
i Since joining Prosser's team Ailsa has shown decided improvement. The Wangauui owned Tautoro ricked one of his legs while racing at Wanganui one day last week. The son of Lethe was in capital nick, and was expccled to pick up a race or two during the holidays. The mishap is a bit of [bad luck for his connection. Glenullin and Science were the pick of the horses engaged at the T.J.C. Christmas meeting. The latter is a half brother to Shrapnel. Paritutu was heavily backed uy local punters for the Cup on Tuesday. A great finish took place at Palmerston in the President's Handicap between Savoury, Boris, Black Reynard, and Lyrist, the five horses racing for home together. Boomerang won by a head between second, third, and fourth horses.
The Australian Jockey Club have granted a trainer's and jockey's license to Clarence O'Neill. Bookmakers will not be allowed to ply their calling on the new racecourse at Trcntham. Waiwera won the A.R.C. Grafton Hurdles in good style on Boxing Day. The old fellow had the rest of tho field all under the whip. Local punters did net participate in the dividend as the horse is not usually partial to the Ellerslie course.
