THE PETROLEUM WORKS.

MOST PROMISING OUTLOOK.

Work will be resumed at the Moturoa petroleum bore to-day. On Saturday last the new packer was fitted, and the mini was cleared from (he bore. Mr Fair visited the works on Tuesday morning they had been closed Fur Christmas—ami Found pure oii flowing from the bore. There was no water in it, and no gas escaping, which fads indicate that Mr Fair has cut off the water. As the influx of water has been the principal drawback, it will be seen that this is a most important and highly satisfactory state of affairs, which brightens the prospects of the company. The oil continued to (low steadily all Tuesday, and on Wednesday the prospects were even better.

The 5-ineh easing will probably be sunk another two feet iuto the solid, and then the 1-ineb casing will be fixed for an immediate commencement of pumping operations.

Mr Fair is very hopeful, for the oil now (lowing is very rich, surpassing anything he has previously seen. During the holidays the works were an object of mueh interest to visitors, but they were unable to obtain admission.
