THE KAPANUI DISASTER.

PREPARING TO RAISE THE WRECK. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, December 27. Operations commenced on the sunken steamer Kapanui to-day, but beyond getting a wire rope round the hull nothing was done. The diver went down three times, but the water was very muddy, and he could not see much. He got on the bridge of the steamer, but not into the cabin to search for t'u bodies of those supposed to have goiu- down in her. He could not find out the extent of the damage caused by the collision. The steamer is expected to lie floated on Sunday.
