SUKVHYOR'S IiIiPOUT ON DALGETY. licceived, 16, 0.4. a.m. Meluochne, December 15. The report of the District Surveyor on tho area at Dalgety, from which the capital site is proposed to be chosen, has been tabled. His instructions were to supply descriptions of areas of 100, 200, G32, and 900 square miles, the (irst two so that the seat of Government should be within 17 miles of Dalgety; also to give descriptions of the means of access by sea, with a limit of IS miles on either side.

The report stales that, apart from [ the Snowy lliver water supply, with its sources of power which are equal to aay demands that may be made thereon, Dalgety possesses no advantage over other sites. Urging the great importnnee of the water supply, he suggests that an area of 1550 mile;, embracing the whole of the catchment area of the river, should be controlled by the Federal Government aud preserved from pollution. He estimates the values of the Crown and alienated lands involved to range from £179,000 for 100, to £1,216,000 for9oo square miles and £1,744,000 for a 15S0 square mile avca. ' s .
