AWARDS FOR SAVING LIFE. PER PHEBS ASSOCIATION. CunisTcnuscH, December 15. The Council of tho Royal Humane Society, decided in regard to the Puncan case, in which two Maoris rescued a body at. Nnpicr which proved to have been ill the water about two months, that in view of an opinion received from the governing body in England, the Council could not sec its way to make an a,ward or consider the matter further.
Tlie following awards were made :—• George McDonald, Wellington, rescuing a boy from drowning, a letter oE commendation. Keginald P. Wilder, Christchurcli, rescuing a boy from drowning at Wangauui, bronze medal, William Brooke, chief officer of tlie s.s. Star of Australia, for rescuing a man from being drowned or crushed to death at Napier roadstead, silver clasp; (Brooke already holding a silver medal.) Evan P, McKobcrts, Pauranga, rescuing three poople from drowning, silver medal. Hugh Kelly, Gisbornc, roseuing a child from drowning, bronze medal. Edward James McGrunn, Pukekohe, rescuing a man from being run over by a train, silver medal. Charles Walter Tonkinson, Nelson, a similar rescue, silver medal. Edward I'. Lavery, Kaitangata, rescuing a man From drowning, bronze medal. Will, iaui P. Riddock, Belfast, rescuing a girl from drowning, bronzs medal. Henry Nolton and Charles Fenton, Auckland, rescuing a man from ('"owning, certificate and letter of commendation respectively. In the case of Ann Miller, of Clive, who died while attempting to rescue her brother from drowning, no award was made owing to the absence of evidence.
