BOOKMAKERS FINED.

IMPRISONMENT THREATENED. PES PRESS ASSOCIATION. Chuistchubch, December 13. At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon several bookmakers were fined for trespassing on the Riccarton Racecourse at the November meeting. J. Gray and M. Connelly were fined £5, and S. Brierly £lO. |The charges .' ;ainst J. C. Palmer and D. McLaren were dismissed, on the ground that lacy were acting as clerks to bookuakers. The Magistrate said it was no use warning these men, and he intended to send them to gaol for the Jrti'-o. He knew he had been soft in the past, but would not be so in the future.
