LYTTELTON HARBOR IMPROVEMENTS.
PROPOSED CANAL TO CHRISTCHURCH.

At a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbor Board this afternoon a lengthy report was presented by the Board's engineer on the J subject of further harbor extensions, and on the feasability of constructing a canal from ike sea to Christckurch. The first of the harbor extension propositions provides for a small additional harbor near Officers' Point, which would [[enclose about 90 acres of water, and would cost £275,000. The second proposition provides for a new harbor at Gollins Bay, which would enclose about 200 acres and would cost £609,000. The first of the canal propositions provides for a tidal basin in the estuary, near the mouth of the Heathcote River, which would cost £1,053,684, and the second provides for a tidal basin just below Wilson's road, opposite Linwood Railway Station, which would cost £1,743,392, which includes £379,528 for the resumption of 358 acres of laud. The Board decided to defer consideration of the report until after the annual meeting to bo held next February.
