The New Post Office.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE. DATE FIXED. On Thursday afternoon Tlis AVorship the Mayor "(Mr 11. Ouok) and Mr E.M. Smith both received a telegram from the Premier to the effect that Sir Jos epli Ward would come to New Plymouth next week to lay the foundation stone of the new post office buildings in the evening the Mayor had the following telegram from Sir Joseph Ward " 1 propose to leave Wellington on Monday for New Plymouth, and lay the foundation stone on I Tuesday. Kindly wire if this arrangement will suit." 1 The Mayor promptly replied stating that Tuesday would suit, and that arrangements would be made accordingly. Heat once put himself in communication with some of the leading members of the committee formed for the purpose, and no doubt the principal details will be settled to-day. The contractors (Messrs Pikett and Wilkie) intend to present the Minister with a silver trowel, and in pursuance of their instructions, Mr A. L. Cocke has manufactured a trowel that redounds to his credit as a work of the silversmith's art, and when suitably insci ibed should serve as an excellent memento of the occasion.
