HIGH COMMISSIONER'S HBI'OHT. Wellington, October 10. The Department of [ndustriea and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, 7th inst. : Tlie mutton market is very dull and I weak. Prices have declined.

The lamb market is depressed. There is dull sale for nil lamb. The average price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is 4J per tt>, for brands other than Canterbury 4gd per lb. The beef market is quiet, but. steady, at about last prices. The butter market is steady, and prices are well maintained.

The cheese market is firm. Canadian 56s to 57s per cwt.

The hemp market is steady, and fair business is doing. The price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot, to-dny, is £3O 10s, October-December shipments £3l. The stock on hand at September 30th was 2515 tons. The cocksfoot seed market is dull and very little business is doing. Kauri gum.—Ordinary to fair threequarters scraped £6 10s, fair iialfscraped £4 10s, brown fair, half to three-quarter scraped 765, brown pickings, common to good 42s 6d, brown fair to good pale and amber-scrapod £5 15s. New Zealand long-berried wheat on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 496 lbs, 2!>s Gd, New Zealand short-ber-ried wheat on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4<J6lbs, 28s fid. There is very little demand for New Zealand oats. Short Sparrowbills, ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 381 lbs, 22s ; New Zealand oats (Danish), ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3201b5, 16s (id. The market is quiet, but steady. New Zealand beans, f.a.q. (new crop) per 501 lbs, 33s fid. The market is firmer. New Zealand peas (Partridges) per 5011bs 375, New Zealand peas (blue), per 50libs, 28s (id.
