THURSDAY, SEPT. 28. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. AFTERNOON SITTING. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Sir Joseph Ward moved the recommittal of the Electoral Bill for the purpose of reconsidering certain clauses. Mi Taylor moved an amendment, enabling women to be nominated as candidates. Lost by 39 to 23. A motion by Mr Herries to recommit clause 178, with a view to abolishing the present system of nominaItionij] connection with election for Maori members, was lost by 32 to 30. EVENING SITTING. The House met at 7.30 p.m. The Electoral Bill wis reconsidered in Committee. Clause 51, providing that the names of absentees shall ho removed alter more than a year's absence, was retained by 39 to 28. The Bill was reported, and the debate on the third reading was proceeding at midnight.
