FOOTBALL.
During the season just ended Taranaki played six representative matches, winning two and losing lour. Our team defeated Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa, and were defeated by Auckland, Australia (in which match Wanganui was combined with us), Wellington and Wanganui. The gate receipts at the Taranaki v, Australia match, played at Hawcra early this, month, totalled over £9O.
ASSOCIATION MATCH. WELLINGTON v. TARANAKI. The representatives will meet in the Recreation', Grounds at three o'clock to-d!ayWellington team (yellow and \black) Goal, Burns ; full-back, Elson, Duff; halves, J. PyeSmith, Renai, Sparrow; forwards, Twohill, A. Mouat (captain), P. PyeSmith, G. McNair, and W. Mouat. Tranaki team (red) will be chosen' from the following :—Frost, Clark, Bullock, Rcid, Lister, Hartley, Sehofield, Wilson, Forcshaw, Dring, Aeklom and Dugdale. Mr Riddles will referee, and Messrs Hamilton and A. Smith will act as linesmen. The Wellington team arrived on Wednesday night. Mr W. Hamilton is manager. The visitors will be entertained at a dinner and smoke concert at the Red House to-night, at which the Mayor will preside, and will return home by Friday's express. The Wellington team comes north with a good reputation, and a fast game is expected. The Marlborough Rugby Unjon has taken further steps to suppress any-, thing in the shape of rough play or bad language.
