The monthly mct-1 ing of the Taranaki Land Board was 'held oil Tuesday. There were present, the Commissioner, Mr F. Burgess to W. T. Bacon-, section 1?, Jlock J5, Pouatu ; W. G. Whit-ton to L. Miller, sublease of part 40, block 11, Ng-airo ; Hurley, n'nd o'Sullivan to M. Bailey the con scut was given subject to the transferee completing an agreement made between the Board and the transferor as to a severance of part of. the section by a t-oad to lie taken. The Board ordered that the rent conceded to W. Lee and J, J. Connor under tho Bush and 'Swamp Act too paid in full, and that the transferees continue to pay the rent as under the ordinary conditions of tho Land Act.

—Arrears.— A schedule of selectors in arrears wil'h their rents was laid on ths tal/le. In the c;>V of 'an I 'nper Wtfiftara tenant, it was decided, 'unless lie pays two instalments 'within two months, to instruct the Crown .Solicitor tn take legal proceedings to recover tlve amount owing. Consideration of the other cases was deferred to next meeting. —-Voji-Compliance. A schedule of improved farm settlers to whom extension of time had been given to effect improvements and reside on their holdings, was laid on the tail/le. It was decided to give notice to all those who have not vfiectul their improvements ami are not on their sections, that their interests are forfeited. Themas O'Hrien applied for permission to reside on section 8, block 16, Aria, without his family until the ronxl is made to t-he section.— The application was granted on condition that he takes up residence forthwi Hi.
' —Forfeitures.— The Hanger reported on the, application of !•', s. Tarrant to forfeit section 'I, block 8, V-g-atiniaru, on account of it bring too rough lo work by itself.—Korfeittye was accepted . J. Mullooly 'applied to surrender section 21, block Olnira, on nccount of vant of access, and Xohn Kelly, the holder of section 22 adjoining. applied to take it up as his holding is rough. Tho surrender was accepted ami Kelly's appl'ication approved in tho twins of section- 114 of the 'Act J. F. Shaw- asked that section R, block 11, Oape, hj« forfeited, as he had not t'h<i means to keep it. going'.—Approved. Michael Kenny offered Hie surrender of section 13, 'block 10, Ohura—Accept eil. .The Deputy Official Assignee in bankruptcy asked that the interest of Henry Mehafiy in section.Cl, block •1, Paritutu, Spotswood Settlement, be forfeited, i Consideration was postponed for I further inrfuiry, —Hangers' Reports.— J. Barron, Crown Lands ranger reported on the* inspection of 8\ holdings, comprising an area of 2.1290 acres, improvements were required to the value of £28,884, and had been effected to the extent of £lO,.il:i. Sixty-six were residing. Of 1 5 at present non-resident, 10 were required under the conditions f to reside. Only one man -lrad not effected sufficient -improvements. The report was adopted as satisfactory. Action is to -l,e talen to notily those in- -default to show cause why they have -not complied with the conditions. The ranger reported on sections 1, block r>, ami it. block <i, I'ouatu. possession of which lie lias resumed. —The Hoard adopted the report, ami decided to crfer the land for sale or selection under part of tlie l.an-d Act. weifc'lvted with valuation for improvements. The ranger reported- that A. Van Ascli was using the grass on section 0. block (>, -Kn intra, forfeited by Wm. and at present open for application.' Loan Mock.— A memo was received from the ru-der-Secretary [or Crown Lands suggesting that, the proposed price of the sections in Tamnata bo-an- 'block be increased to provide sufficient money for i opening lip ' thy block right through In' a horse track. The Hoard was of opinion' thattho prices of t'he S'-ctions as proposed at present are trjjuife high enough, even if a 'good summer horse road were provided through the Mock,ami suggested ('hat the, amount of the loading for roads be increased without refeftmcu to the price at which the land is to 'be offered. —Forest Reserve.— Jt was resolved that section !i, block 7, Opaku, containing 1110 acres, and at present open for selection, be withdrawn from sale and that tlio Government be recomniemled to make Hm fa ml a forest, reserve. It was pointed out-that l-lve land lias already been taken up and forfeited ;' that, it rises to an altitude or 12.*.0 ft above the l'atea Hiver.aml that i'L lies away from thv suiv. The person who took up tjils land, it was added, would have nearly all the fencing to 'do himself, as the land is surrounded by an existing forest reserve. (<ij —Proposed Saw mill.— ...A. If. Hyde applied for permission to 'eruet a oiv township reserve, and cut timber therefrom. laid on the table. Those, together with recommendations as to reserves, were adopted, and the lands are to be offered for sale by public auction for cash. J. W. Taunt asked when iho sections in Whangtaauoinona township would be oflered again, and if not soon would the Hoard allow him to ■ build on a section and protect his improvements. —Wuitotara Lands.— Tim Umiur-Sec.retaryi for Crown, Lands forwarded 1 the report of Mr 11. J. 0. Coutts, Government valuer, upon certain tends in the ,Upper Waitotara •district. It was;agreed that the attention the Department 'bo drawn to the fact that the section forfeited 'by W. Van Aseh is at present open for selection at Jls (id per acre, and tc. carry out the (lysiro of the Government in that case would still further increase the prieo of the section, but, that in 't'lfo ojther iSect'h/.As mentioned in Mr , Coutts' report the Board would, no 'doubt, be guided by tins decision arrived at regarding Van Asch's section.
Local Bodies Expenditure.— The following local bodies submitted proposals for the expenditure of accrued thirds mid fourths I'atea West Road Board £7 15s (7d, Motora £2 4 s 6d, Wairoa £2O 18s lOd, Stratford County Council £614 14s W. The proposals were approved. In regard to the Stratford I County Council schedule the approval was subject to a ccrtificato 'being supplied as to raising a loan for Marco Road. —Miscellaneous.— E. Tulmo applied to havo abouto chains of ( an occupation road to section 17,-, block 9, Totora, added to his section as it took up the toost 'homestead site.—A report is to 'be obtained from the surveyor. C. J. Itiddlo applied ior the 'grazing on sections 13, block a, Aria, and 7, block 10, Totoro, and stated that ho would havo to drain his section through his holdings. —lt was decided to obtain a report from tho ranger.
R. Gibson wrote offering a rental of 2s Oct per acre per ■annum for subsection Jjt. Eltham—Opunake railway reserve. It was ngrecd to grant a yearly tenancy at the rental offered, subject to termination -by three months notice m the event of the land bein K retniiifß', ° C. 11. Hope applied for the lease of about 8 acres in- Mangaroa township for grazing purposes.—A yearly lenancy was 'granted at a rental to be lixed by the Commissioner ami Mr Skect, district surveyor. Mr E. M. Murley wrote asking for a lebate of 13s 2d rent on section 13, block 11, Mimi,—The applicant is to be informed that (he Board has no power to grant his mfiiest. The School Commissioners asked that, the land severed by a deviation ot Makuin Hood in section 30, block HI, Huiroa, also the closed road on section 53. block 10. be offered for sale in the terms of section 213 of the .Act.—The application was agreed to, ihe details of sale'being left lo the Conuiiissionen

Wort'hingt-on applied for a six months' tenancy of sections 16 ami 17, block 4, Ngatimaru, and t'he ranger reported <m the sections, re-comnifmlin-g a reduction in the price of tho land.
