The -teams were evenly matched, but the Manawatu forwards were superior in effective work and were in better condition, the visitors having the best team of backs, taken all round. Jlourke scored, a clever try lor Taranaki, and Johnston crossed twice for Manawatu. None of tho tries were converted. Rothery, Taranaki, injured his leg |twl bed to retire.
