Recreation Ground Improvements

THE BOARD FAVOURABLE.. A meeting 'of the Recreation Ground Board was 'held at the office of the secretary (Mr Tribe) on Tuesday evening. Present : Messrs F. P. Corkill (Chairman), C. W. ' Govott, S. IVrcy Smith, R. Cock, R. c. Hughes, H. Ford, and W. A. Collis. A deputation consisting of Messrs A. Humphries, H. Stockcr, G. Griffiths, A. George, and J. Clarke, representing the united sports committee, waited on the board with on important proposal to take over the administration of the sports for a term of seven years, with the right of renewal, and to carry out a scheme of improvements estimated to cost £I3OO, The committee proposed to raise the money for the work of extending the sports oval by altering the terraces, raising and drainrng the ground, and providing a bicycle track. They asked the Hoard to grant the ground free for seven years, thd committee to pay all interest, upkeep, working expenses, and refund of debentures if such are issued, from revenue collected for the hire of tho sports ground, any balance after paying such expenses to be handed to the Board. The committee also requested tho use of the other portion of the Recreation Grounds on any occasion that might be required for. the purpose of raising money. After a courteous reply by the Chairman, the deputation thanked the Board for. 'their reception and withdrew.

The Board then carefully considered the proposals, and ultimately, passed tho following resolution—"That tho deputation l representing tho various sports clubs bo informed that this Board is prepared to cordially co-operate with them in their desire to greatly improve tho sports ground, and that as soon as the associated i representatives can assure the Board that the schemo can be carried out successfully, -the trustees will be prepared to grant a lease, for a term of at least seven years, on condition that a rental of not less than £3O. per -annum is provided,'J
