Deputation to the Premier. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. A deputation representing 346 school committees of the colony waited on the.Premier to-day, and lrew attention to the need for tho amendment of the Education Act in ihe direction of making < more - ex-. plicit provision ; (or tho consultation of committees by Education Boards in the appointment and removal oC teachers.
The Premier agreed that the matter was of considerable importance, and that the 'present condition of iffairs needed alteration.Thero should ic something more definite than now prevailed. If committees were to have powers #hcy should 1)6 defined ; ;{ their duties were to be merely perfunctory the Legislature should say so. He was satisfied,! committees should have greater powers than, now, and that there jhould be a higher authority to settle disputes.
