Eiceptiu&l Prices Prophesied. Mr McKowin, who, as representative of Messrs Lovell and Christmas, Smithfield, London, has visited New Zealand for fiiteen consecutive years years in connection with the butter export trade, has been spending some weeks in Taranaki, making H&wcra . his headquarters. Mr McKowin was in Now Plymouth 011 Saturday oil business, and when interrogated by a reporter of the Daily News he spoke very optimistically of the season's prospects. His latest communication by mail irom his firm stated : "Wc look for exceptional prices throughout the coming season, and ali those who consign will certainly find themselves better off than those who sell. We shall have a shortage of butler and perhaps of cheese also." Mr McKowin, who is exceptionally well in touch with the trade, both at tivis end and on the market, strongly supports this view. The cabled advices which he has received since have been 011 the same lines. I The visitor considers that all round the producers arc in for very good markets. He (is a believer in the system of grading, holding the view that although buyers do not rely on the colonial graders' judgment, the system serves a splendid purpose in keeping the quality up to 1 the standard, while it; indicates to factory, managers the defects to avoid and rectify, Mr McKowin will leave Taranaki about the end of September, and lake his departure for London by the s.B. Corinthic on Oct. 2.
