Fatal Fall from a Train.
Plucky Attempt at Rescue.
(Per Press Association;.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. At the inquest concerning the death of Mrs Ellen Thompson to-day, the evidence showed that she had stopped from a moving train at Wellington station. In falling she grasped the stanchion of the next platform, and was saved from going' under the wheels by the prompt action of a porter named G, Cornioot. The step of the carriage, however, drew both Cornfoot and deceased under the train, bat clear of the wheels. The jury returned a verdict o( accidental death, and commended Cornfoot on his courage. Mrs Thompson's back was broken, and she was severely injured internally.
