HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. Tbe Department of Industries' and Commerce has received tbe following cablegram from the High Commissioner for Mew Zealand, dated London, 19th inst. Mutton—The market is quiet but steady. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4jd per tb for light weights, 3}d per lb heavy weights ; North Island mutton, 4id per ft light weights, 3j;d per ft heavy weights. Lamb.—The mari;o; is weak, and demand is falling ol;. Supplies ol home-grown lamb arc heavy, and arc lowering priies ot N.w Zealand lamb. The average price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is 5Jd per lb, and for other than Canteruurj biaml .jjd per lb. Tegs, IJd. Bcei—'Tne marliet is dull. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. The average price to-day for hind-quarters of New Zealand beef is 3Jd per lb, fores 2Jd per ft. Butter.—The market is firm, and there is a good demand, Danish 121s, Canadian 109s, Siberian" 103s, Australian winter make (small arrival) IU7. Butter prospects for next season arc more favourable than those last year.

Cheese.—The market is firm with good demand. Canadian 5-fs.^ Hemp.—The market is nuleT, and small business is doing. Stock is heavy. The, price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, oil spot today, is £27 10s ; August and October shipments £2B. The price ol Manilla hemp, lair current, grade, ou spot, to-day, is £36 10s. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is quiet, but holders are firm. The average price to-day for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 17ft per bushel, on spot, is 53s per cwt,

Current Bradford quotations for tops arc: 36's, low crossbreds, Is Id per lb ; 40's do., Is 4Jd ; 44's, medium crossbreds, Is sjd ; 50's, lialfbreils. Is 9d ; 56's, quartcrbreds, Is lOd ; BO's, inerinos, 2s 2d.
