New Plymouth Harbour Board.
Monthly Meeting. The New Plymouth Harbour Hoard met on Friday, when there were pre sent, Messrs J. B. Connect (chairman), Newton King, Hine, McLean, Brown, Ward, Price Maxwell, and Hornby. , —Water Pipe at Wharf. — The District Engineer of Railways wrote that the water pipe laid alon.« the breakwater was. damage,! through being too close to the surface oi the eonereile in one place. It was decided to lay the pipe under the | wharf. * I —The New Crane.— MesSrs Joseph Sparrow and Sons engineers, of Dunedin, wrote claiming £36 10s for certain alterations to tho crane, after its construction according to specifications supplied by the consulting engineer, Mr Marchant. A letter was- received from Mr Merchant, detailing tho circumstances. He refused to give any further certificates than those ho had already signed, on the ground that the Ileai\i was not liable, unddr its contract with Mr Sparrow. The, firm had to deliver the "crane In satisfactory working order. After some discussion tho IVianl resolved toi reply to Messrs Sparrow and Sons repudiating liability. —Association Conference.— The Chairman mentioned that the proceedings at the recent annual conference of the Harbour Boards' Association was about to be issued in printed form, and laid before the various Boards. The report of the Chairman an'i his; co-delegate «jas accordingly deterred till next meeting. —Finances.— The following bonk balances were reported General account debit, £4486 8s 7d ; trust account cre'di.fr, £2572 0s 2d. Several tenders wcro received for ' tho supply of Portland cement, that of Messrs Bellriager Bros., at 12s 16Jd per cask, being accepted. The tender of the same firm foi painting the Harbourmaster's cottage, at £l3 10s, was accepted. —Rating.— In accordance with notice, the Chairman moved that a v rato of 5-1 (id in the £ be struck. Tais was unanimously agreed to. —Miscellaneous.— The foreman stated that the longest of the ironbark pile ends were being split into sleepers-, and to date 140 had been prepared at a cost of Is each. Eight short piles required for repairs to the "gridiron" had been prepared, and would be driven during the next month.
