OPm ftwi iModatfan.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 19". ' The lArbitration Court was engaged to-day in hearing a dispute between tbe Boimakers' Union and the cardboard box manufacturers. Tbe claims o( the Union show an advance of 25 pel cent, on the .present rate, toeing calculated to enable girls to earn 25s per week. A statement submitted by the employers is based on 20s per week. It was that the industry was snbject now to competition by importations from Japan. Cigarette boxes with holders, for which tbe Union asked 4s 611 per gross, Were offered from Japan at 2s lid. Mr Breen, for the Union, said the price now submitted by employers Was not the price originally submitted, otherwise a settlement might have teen arrived at. Had a (air offer -been made the girls would have accepted it, as they did not desire to appear before the Court. Decision wis reserved.
