PERSONAL NOTES.
Messrs D. U. Martin, R. Law, Chas. Smith and H. Sutherland have been elected to the directorate of the Mangatoki Dairy Company. A caUle message records the death of Mr "Pete" Huglies, the well-i known theatrical agent. The news was not altogether unexpected. When Mr Hughes was in this colony a lew months ago, managing the tour of the Van Biene Company in •"The 'Broken Melody," it was painfully apparent that he was sufiering greatly. He had then only recently returned from a tour in America in search of health, and on reaching Australia tiovq, this colony had ty enter a prjvatc hospital lrom which he never came out alive, Oh) playgoers are familiar with the dapper little gentleman, his irreproachable dress suit, red silk handkerchief, ami opera hat at confident angle. His cheery disposition made him hosts of tncmis wherever he Went, and the profession will also deplore his loss. In bygone days he managed all "The Firm's" (Williamson, Oarner, and Musgrove) tours in this colony, introducing many artists and companies, musical, dramatic, and operatic, to us-Frank Thornton, John- F. Sheridan, the -Royil Cemics, Chas.'War- I ner, Mrs BroWn-Potlor, the Broughs, I and legions of others—then for Williamson and Musgrove lie was manaIger ; then Mr J. C, Williamson, and on liis last visit lor Mr Geo. Musgrpve., The list of companies Mr Hugucs piloted and managed through this cplwny would 'be <a formidable one. He was over 22 years in Mr Williamson's and partners' employ.
