AUCKLAND, Au&. 17 ' News of , a second volcanic eruption in the Island of Saavaii, in the bnuioan Group of Islands, w a s received by the Union Gompany's Ulund trader Navua'. Captaift McLean states thjat when that vessel arrived iit Apia, in the (Island of [Upolulu, on the night of the 7>th «&., a great volume af flame! suddenly shoC un into the air, and as the crater on Saavaii Island, 40 miles distant, had been active some three years ago.iit was conjectured that jit, was there the eruption was taking place. This proved t 0 be dorrect. fhe volcano continued- active throughout the 7th and, 9th, anU when the Navua sailed the following evening it was still belchilng forth smoke nnd flames. The officers and passengers of the Navua had a splendid opportunity of seeing, the display. There a re imp thousand native inhabitants and a number 0 f white traders on the island, but it is believed that there are no casualties
