VOLUNTEER NOTES.
The Taranaki Rifles held their usual inspection parade on Monday night when there was a wry good muster. As the floor of tin- Drill Hall was j encumbered with, the dVjll was a short one, the principal items dealt with being the theory of'judging distance .by sight a|sti sound, names of the parts of the rifle, and outpost duty. At the conclusion of the parade. Captain Okey, on behalf of the corps, presented Colour-Sergeant Armltago with a case of silver-mounted pipes, as a mark of ihe esteem in -which ho is held by the company. Captain Okey s-aid the colour-sergeant, although he hud tho makings of a good shot,, cheerfully gave up -his practice to improve the shooting- of the corps generally.
